7-Day Walking and Sightseeing Holiday in Malta & Gozo  

All activities for €100 per person

 

INTRODUCTION

Gozo is a small island with marvellous landscape and rich history providing many wonderful experiences for country walks and to rambling along cliff-tops with panoramic views.

We're offering an exciting walking and sightseeing package to all those who love exploring the great outdoors.  This includes 3 days walking on Gozo, 2 days sightseeing in Malta and 1 day of wine tasting and touring around a large local winery estate.

The tour will be led by Ian Winterbourn an experienced walks leader and tour guide. He has been leading walks and tours in the Maltese Islands for over 10 years and has a very intimate knowledge of the islands.

day 1 - monday

Activity type: Walk from Mgarr to Xlendi (6.75 miles)

Starting: 10.15am Ending: 14.15

Starting at the ferry port of Mgarr (Bus Route 322 from Xaghra) the walk takes us along the coast to the charming inlet of Mgarr-ix-Xini. We continue along the remote coastal path into the town of Sannat. From here we head back along the coastline with views of rugged and spectacular cliffs to our final destination of Xlendi. Xlendi is a most charming resort with plenty of bayside cafes and restaurants. An opportunity to linger for a late lunch. A bus takes us back to Victoria and another one onto Xaghra.

day 2 - tuesday

Activity type: Travel to Malta - Sightseeing in Valletta

Starting: 08.45am        Ending: 18.45pm

We meet at Mgarr (Bus Route 322 from Xaghra). We cross to Malta by ferry and travel by minibus to Valletta. At Valletta we walk through the upper part of the city, passing many of its churches and grand buildings. We include a visit to the Upper Barrakka Gardens with its spectacular views over the Grand Harbour.

We recommend a visit to the St John’s co-cathedral and a harbour cruise but if you wish you can explore the city at your leisure. We return by minibus to the ferry and across back to Gozo.

day 3 - wednesday

Activity type: Walk

Starting: 10.15           Ending: 13.00

Starting at the ferry port of Mgarr (Bus Route 322 from Xaghra) the walk takes us through the village of Ghajnsielem and out into the rural countryside. We continue to the village of Xewkija for a coffee break and a visit to the Rotunda church. For a small fee 3 Euros you can take a lift to the base of the rotunda for panoramic views of Gozo. The final leg takes us into the main square of Xaghra. Here you can have a leisurely lunch or walk to the nearby Ggantija Temples, reputed to be the oldest free standing structures in the world. A short walk takes us back to Bellavista Farmhouses Gozo.

DAY 4 - thursday

Activity type: Travel to Malta, Sightseeing in Mdina & Dingli (cart ruts)

Starting: 08.45         Ending: 18.45

We meet at Mgarr (Bus Route 322 from Xaghra). We cross to Malta by ferry and travel by minibus to the cart ruts at “Clapham Junction”. There, we will be met by a local guide who will offer an explanation of the cart ruts and show us nearby Punic tombs and troglodyte caves.

We catch a bus into Mdina and spend the rest of our day visiting the old capital Mdina. Mdina is a beautiful city with many fine churches, palazzos and other grand buildings.

You can make an optional visit to the Roman Villa, St Paul’s catacombs or other buildings and museums.

Return by minibus from Mdina to the ferry and back to Gozo.

DAY 5 - FRIDAY

Activity type: Visiting the Citadel in Victoria, Dwejra Bay and the Gozo Crafts village (5.5 miles).

Starting: 10.00.   Ending: 14.00

We meet at Victoria bus station (Bus Route 307 from Xaghra). We have time to explore Victoria and the citadel before heading out of Victoria towards Kercem. We then head out to Wardija point with spectacular views over Fungus rock and to the Inland Sea. We descend to Dwejra  point. Here, we have an option to take a short boat trip out from the Inland Sea through a cave to explore further caves out in the open sea (cost: 4 Euros).

From the inland sea we ascend to the San Lawrenz village and then to Gozo craft village. A bus takes us back to Victoria to linger or take a further bus to Xaghra.

Day 6 - saturday

Activity type: Agritourism tour at Ta' Mena

Starting: 09.45  Ending: 16.00

Cost: €20.00 (included)

We meet at Victoria Bus Station (Bus Route 307 from Xaghra) and walk to the Ta' Mena winery at the Xewkija Industrial Estate. We visit the cellars and view the machinery of wine making and olive pressing. We then walk to the Ta' Mena Estate. Here, we have a tour of the olive trees, fruit trees and vines with explanations of the growing processes. We then sample the local food products and wine. The food is enough to satisfy your lunch time appetite. After the tour we walk into Marsalforn to see the resort. We then head back to Xaghra on a direct bus route.

DAY 7- SUNDAY

Activity type: Rest

Enjoy some final time at leisure either lounging by the pool of the farmhouse or a sunny lunch at Xaghra village square (only a short 10 minute walk away), before your trip back to the airport for your flight home.
